Restoration Project: 1963 Corvette Stingray Split Window Coupe

Wipe the drool off your chin. You're embarrassing yourself.

Not very many shops get the opportunity to restore a 1963 Corvette Stingray, let alone one of such pristine vintage as the one we have in the shop right now. So you can imagine our excitement when this baby came in.

A text-book 'garage find', this supreme example of the rare split-window Corvette Stingray is practically unspoiled. The interior suffers none of the usual signs of age or exposure. The engine is completely original. The exterior looks great but is falling victim to the usual problems of older Corvettes: paint cracking, body warping, and seam gaps.

Until very recently, coatings were susceptible to forces of nature. Heat and cold expanded and contracted the paint and varnish until hairline cracks developed, making the coatings useless. This Corvette was no exception. To restore this beauty, we're completely removing the varnish and paint, right down to the fibreglass. Eventually, we'll be building up a new coat that comes with a lifetime guarantee.
